About Instructor Patricia Gilliam

Patricia Gilliam, PhD, MEd, ANP-BC
Patricia  (Patty) Gilliam’s professional career revolves around education and healthcare. She has held positions as a high school teacher, community college instructor, Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, Nursing Educator, Nursing Program Director and Nurse Researcher. Prior to her nursing career she earned a Master’s Degree in Exercise Physiology, taught Anatomy and Physiology and was a gymnastics and swimming instructor.

During the 2020 COVID crisis and subsequent changes to everyone’s life, she began to focus her practice on Community Health and Wellness and is now working as a Wellness Consultant. It is in this role that she comes to WNC Tai Chi for Health as a Tai Chi instructor.

Patty is a member of the Tai Chi for Health Institute and Tai Chi for Health Community. She is certified as an instructor and will be teaching the following programs: Tai Chi for Arthritis (Sun style)- Level 1 and Level II, Seated Tai Chi for Arthritis and Tai Chi for Falls Prevention.

Patty  began her study of Tai Chi with Brian  Moran, DPT, L.Ac. . She continues to study with Dr. Moran focusing on the Yang 64 form and QiGong practices that support that form.  Dr. Moran’s Tai Ji training was through two Tai Ji Masters who are direct lineage students of Yang Ban-Ho.

Patty has also studied Tai Chi and QiGong with: Larry Cammerata, PhD., Anne Plyler, M.S.LPT. and Billy Roberts L.Ac. , Patty and her husband, Bill Willoughby live in Marshall, NC with their dog, Maddy and cat, Sophia. They enjoy their “cabin in the woods”, walking and hiking.
